Peskov named the city where Putin, Trump, and Xi Jinping could meet

Talks between Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump are set to take place soon. The possibility of a trilateral meeting involving Chinese leader Xi Jinping is also being considered.

Kremlin Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov made this statement.

Where will the talks take place?

Peskov said that the Chinese city of Shenzhen is being considered as a possible venue for a meeting between Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump. In addition, a trilateral summit involving Chinese leader Xi Jinping may take place there.

Right now, everyone is watching to see what will happen in Shenzhen – whether there will be an opportunity to hold a bilateral meeting between Putin and Trump, or a trilateral meeting with Xi Jinping. Both options, as they say, are on the table,
– said a Kremlin spokesperson.

He added that the parties have not yet reached final agreements on either a bilateral meeting between Putin and Trump or a trilateral summit between the leaders of Russia, China, and the U.S.

But we still hope that such an opportunity will arise,
– Peskov noted.

As a reminder, Beijing is in no hurry to agree to this meeting. Trilateral talks may create diplomatic risks for China.

Moscow is seeking agreements on Ukraine modeled after the 1945 Yalta Conference in order to ease Russia’s international isolation. At the same time, the Trump administration may focus on the issue of nuclear disarmament, which would put Beijing in an awkward position due to China’s significantly smaller nuclear arsenal compared to that of the U.S. and Russia.

Furthermore, China is interested in maintaining separate channels of communication with Washington and Moscow and emphasizes the need to involve Ukraine and Russia in the peace process.

Another reason for caution is the risk that a trilateral summit could overshadow the main events of the APEC meeting, where Beijing seeks to demonstrate its economic leadership. Instead of an official summit, China may propose a less formal format for engagement, serving as a platform for negotiations between the U.S. and Russia.
