A Silly Mistake: Trump Single-Handedly Strengthened Putin's Bargaining Position
Despite Trump's threats, the United States is still trying to act as a mediator in the negotiations between Ukraine and Russia. The problem is that this is not actually yielding any significant results.
Gleb Ostapenko, a political consultant and foreign policy expert, spoke about this on Channel 24. According to him, over the past year and a half, the United States has not made significant progress in the negotiations. Trump’s special envoys have been traveling to meet with various parties, talks are taking place, but there are no results. Russia is unwilling to compromise.
Trump could have put pressure on Russia, but chose not to
As Ostapenko emphasized, the United States made a serious mistake during the negotiation process. In fact, Trump had the opportunity to put pressure on Russia using a law co-authored by the late Senator Lindsey Graham. However, he threw away this “card” of his own accord.
Moreover, Trump struck a diesel deal with Russia that effectively changed nothing. It was a slap in the face to Ukraine and European partners.
Whose side is the United States on, then? Why slap partners in the face who are effectively defending the security of the European continent and Europe itself – and, as a result, the American world order, if it can still be called that? “The logic here is unclear to me,”
– Ostapenko noted.

For a long time now, the Ukrainian side has had to explain the fundamentals of Russian aggression to American delegations literally from scratch. And Trump’s statements regarding the war in Ukraine demonstrate that he is completely ignorant on this issue.
Despite this, there are still experts within the U.S. administration capable of soberly assessing the threat posed by Russia. These include Secretary of State Marco Rubio, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, and others.
It should be noted that on November 3, Congressional elections will be held in the U.S. If the Democrats manage to secure a majority in the House of Representatives and strengthen their influence in the Senate, investigations could begin shortly that would lead to the initiation of impeachment proceedings against Trump.
