"A particularly important summit": Zelenskyy and Hungarian Prime Minister Magyar will hold their first meeting

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar will hold their first bilateral meeting in Brussels on October 16. The talks between the two leaders will take place on the sidelines of the European Union summit.

The Hungarian prime minister posted about the upcoming negotiations on social media platform X.

Details of the meeting

As Péter Magyar noted, he is heading to Brussels for a “particularly important” EU summit.

On the agenda are further strengthening the protection of Europe’s external borders, overcoming the energy crisis, and the seven-year EU budget, which is crucial for Hungary’s economic growth,
he added.

Magyar’s meeting with President Zelenskyy is scheduled for Friday morning.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha stated that the Ukrainian side is ready for such a meeting. “We need to agree on a time – the President of Ukraine has a schedule – but if we agree on the time and place, it will happen,” the diplomat noted.

As a reminder, we previously reported that the Hungarian Prime Minister reacted positively to Ukraine’s adoption of the law on education for national minorities. He stated that the amendments significantly facilitate the use of their native language by children of Hungarian nationality in Zakarpattia, and this paves the way for our country to join the European Union.

In addition, Ukrainian authorities are currently actively preparing for important negotiations with the EU. Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that one of the main tasks is to secure the necessary funding for 2026 and 2027 to maintain the country’s stability.
