Trump Is Rapidly Losing Support in the US: The FT Cites Two Main Reasons

On Tuesday, November 3, special elections will be held in the United States. Most registered voters have expressed concern about rising prices and the risk of corruption.

69% of Americans are concerned about ethical violations in the White House. This is according to a survey conducted by the Financial Times and Focaldata.

What do the poll results reveal?

Donald Trump’s approval rating has been declining recently. The main factors behind the drop in voter support are economic hardships and concerns about abuses of power.

The poll found that nearly half of respondents consider corruption issues during Trump’s term to be more serious than under his predecessors. In addition, 56% of those surveyed reported that their financial situation has worsened since the beginning of the year.

More than a quarter have been forced to cut back on spending on groceries and medicine. Against this backdrop, the American leader’s family and inner circle have earned at least $1 billion from cryptocurrencies. Donors linked to the president are receiving government contracts.

When a family reads an article about the president’s cryptocurrency earnings while deciding whether to postpone an expensive doctor’s visit, they see that the system works for someone – just not for them,
said Jeremy Nay, a professor at Columbia Business School.

The survey found that the rising cost of living is forcing Americans to take a more critical view of the administration’s domestic policies. More than a quarter of citizens are forced to cut back on daily spending on food and medical services due to rising prices. More than 40% of respondents said that rising prices are prompting them to vote for Democrats in the November 3 election.

The White House officially rejects all allegations.

There was no conflict of interest, and Trump is acting solely in the best interests of the American public – which is precisely why he was re-elected to this office by an overwhelming majority,
said White House spokesperson Davis Ingle.

He added that the administration has launched a crackdown on fraud in federal agencies and accused Democratic members of Congress of being unwilling to stop wasteful spending.

Previous polls have shown that the approval rating for the U.S. President suffered a record drop during both of his terms. According to a Reuters poll, only 31% of citizens support Donald Trump’s policies.
