Trump called Norway a "dump" because of the Nobel Peace Prize
U.S. President Donald Trump made harsh remarks about Norway, attributing them to the fact that he did not receive the Nobel Peace Prize. According to him, he does not want to see immigrants from that country in the United States
He made this statement on Sunday, October 25, at a rally in Port Huron, Michigan.
What exactly did Trump say?
Speaking about the recent unrest in France, the U.S. president linked it to immigration. According to him, he would gladly welcome immigrants from certain countries, but Norway is not one of them. The speech came a week before the midterm congressional elections.
Trump explained his attitude toward Norwegians by saying he hadn’t received the Nobel Peace Prize. That’s why he doesn’t want anyone from Norway, the U.S. president said.
“Norway is a dump. Norway has, in fact, turned into a garbage-dump country,”
– Donald Trump stated.
Trump has previously used similar language regarding Haiti, Libya, Somalia, and Yemen. At the same time, the agency notes that there are no signs that his administration is imposing new official restrictions on immigration from Norway, Reuters reports.
Why is Trump outraged by the Nobel Committee’s decision?
In early October, Trump claimed that he should have received the Nobel Peace Prize. But the award went to South African lawyer Navanethem Pillay for her efforts to promote peace and international law. Trump c stated that this year's winner is a "mysterious figure", whom, he claims, no one has ever heard of.
Trump’s dissatisfaction with the committee’s decision had been evident before. In January, he wrote a letter to the Prime Minister of Norway in which he linked his intentions to establish control over Greenland to the fact that he had not been awarded the prize.
Earlier, the U.S. president stated that he has "ended eight wars" in the world, yet has still not received the Nobel Peace Prize. According to the politician, this is quite surprising.
