Failure Due to the War in Iran: US Congress Prepares to Impeach the Defense Secretary, – Media Reports

Republican Congressman Thomas Massie announced his intention to bring a motion to impeach U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth to a vote. Politicians blame the Pentagon chief for the failure in the midterm elections due to the war in Iran.

According to CNN, some Republican lawmakers expect this initiative to be successfully approved by the U.S. House of Representatives. They plan to initiate the impeachment process once lawmakers return to Washington.

Accusations of military escalation without an exit strategy

Behind the scenes, many members of Congress claim that it was the Pentagon chief who persuaded U.S. President Donald Trump to launch strikes against Iran. In their view, the large-scale attack took place without a clear plan to manage the consequences and without an effective exit strategy from the conflict.

Several of the official’s fellow party members told reporters that Hegseth overestimated Washington’s ability to achieve a quick victory. Although the prolonged bombing campaign has not forced Tehran to capitulate, the defense secretary continues to insist on further escalation.

The Pentagon has responded categorically to these accusations.

He (Pete Hegseth – 24 Kanal) will not back down and will not allow himself to be intimidated by politicians seeking to score political points or launch bogus investigations where no wrongdoing has occurred,
– emphasized the department’s chief spokesperson, Sean Parnell.

Disagreements within the administration

A decision by the House of Representatives alone will not be sufficient to permanently remove Hegseth from his position as head of the Pentagon. Such an initiative must be supported by the Senate, where at least two-thirds of the senators must vote in favor for it to pass.

Donald Trump himself publicly denied plans to remove the defense secretary, telling the press that he is “doing a very good job.”

Earlier reports indicated that the U.S. Congress is preparing to impeach the head of the Pentagon over the deaths of 21 American service members, injuries to more than 850 troops, and billions in costs associated with the operation in Iran.

Incidentally, Trump may dismiss Hegseth from his post as U.S. Secretary of Defense following the Republicans’ defeat in the election. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has been mentioned as a potential candidate for his position.
