MAGA is dead, and Vance won't become president: A Canadian journalist on the consequences of Trump's defeat

The Republicans’ defeat in the U.S. midterm elections could mark the beginning of the end for Donald Trump’s political movement. His closest allies are already trying to distance themselves from the president, while potential successors are scrambling to save their own political futures. At the same time, the election results showed that even Elon Musk’s vast wealth and influence do not guarantee victory, and the MAGA movement is losing support among Americans.

The Republicans’ defeat in the U.S. midterm elections could mark the beginning of the end for Donald Trump’s political movement. His closest allies are already trying to distance themselves from the president, while potential successors are scrambling to save their own political futures. At the same time, the election results showed that even Elon Musk’s vast wealth and influence do not guarantee victory, and the MAGA movement is losing the support of Americans.

Canadian journalist Alla Kadish explained on 24 Channel why J.D. Vance and Marco Rubio may have no political future, whether the MAGA movement has truly collapsed, and how the election results will affect support for Ukraine. The journalist also assessed whether Democrats will be able to increase pressure on the Trump administration, what decisions regarding aid to Ukraine might be made before January, and whether the U.S. president will ultimately have to abandon his agreements with Putin.

Meanwhile, The New York Times reports that Vance appears to be distancing himself from Donald Trump even as the race for the upcoming presidential election – more than two years away – begins to take shape. Or perhaps he’s doing this precisely to throw the political landscape off balance. Alla, what do you see behind this statement, this distancing, and the main reasons that have dragged the Republicans down?

Look, J.D. Vance is specifically substituting concepts right now, because it’s very important for him to distance himself from Trump specifically regarding the war. As everyone knows, he was against the war, and he warned Trump about it, and he’s clinging to that like a lifeline because he plans to run for office in ’28.

But the truth is, he still hasn’t quite realized that his hand is beaten – he’ll never become president. In 2028, a Democrat will become president. And it’s not just because of the war; it’s because of other issues he can’t distance himself from now, since he’s been part of the Trump administration all this time.

Important! J.D. Vance is forming an alliance of the "new right" among Republicans who are dissatisfied with Donald Trump’s foreign policy and his stance on Israel. Members of the movement are demanding an end to U.S. involvement in foreign conflicts, curbing inflation, and tightening border controls. They view the vice president’s moves as an attempt to distance himself from the administration’s missteps in order to launch his own campaign for the 2028 election.

This, in particular, is rampant corruption. How does he plan to distance himself from this? Well, okay, let’s say he didn’t personally line his own pockets, but he didn’t say a word. He didn’t speak out against it at all when Trump’s children were lining their own pockets.

Yesterday I watched the victory speeches of all the winning Democratic candidates. What are they promising the public? Why were they elected? Trump’s corruption tops the list. We’ve discussed this before – there was a poll showing that corruption in the White House is like a red rag to a bull. People were absolutely outraged. It’s not just the war with Iran.

And J.D. Vance is trying to shift the focus, because if he blames everything on Israel and war with Iran – claiming that Bibi talked poor, hapless Trump into a war with Iran, and that’s why everything fell apart – well, that’s not the only reason. A poll showed that people are concerned about gas prices and food prices because, first and foremost, they need to survive. But corruption was a bigger concern. Healthcare was also very important.

What has Trump done about healthcare during all this time? And what has J.D. Vance done about healthcare? Nothing – absolutely nothing. So he’s shifting the blame and saying it’s because of the war, so that people will buy into his narrative that it’s all because of the war with Iran – and he was against it – and that he can run for office. Let him try. He’ll get trounced.

The Associated Press reported that corruption and a lack of money had led to more than seventy percent of voters – by the time of the election – being angry, furious, and dissatisfied with their lives and with Trump. And yes, there’s no way to clean up this mess now. You’re right – the downed political pilot never really took off.

Can Marco Rubio – for whom a replacement as U.S. Secretary of State is already being sought – distance himself from Trump and save his own political future? Or does political retribution await him as well?

Well, Rubio has already said he won’t run in 2028. He understands that he won’t be able to distance himself from Trump that quickly. He hopes that he might run in 2032, when everyone will have forgotten.

By then, he’ll still be young enough. Everyone will have forgotten about his involvement in Trumpism and his complete sellout of U.S. interests in general. I’m not even talking about Ukraine or Europe.

And he hopes that after that – let’s say – a Democrat will come to power in '28, and in '32, Rubio will run, when everyone will have forgotten about his antics and will remember him only fondly.

But I don’t think it’ll work out for him either. That trick won’t fly either. And he has a better chance in 2032 than J.D. Vance does in 2028, of course. But his chances are still slim, because the people will hold it against him.

Look at this: the sheer scale with which the public voted against everything that Trumpism tried to impose on them. Not just Trump himself, but the entire MAGA movement, the whole Trumpism phenomenon. The people rejected absolutely everything. You see, they rejected what Trump and Dodge were doing – firing people of color and women from their jobs.

And now all those people of color and women they fired – they won in half the districts. That’s why the people rejected the entire Trumpism ecosystem and rejected MAGA. And if you were tied to it, you’ll never become president.

So if Rubio hopes people will forget about him by 2032, he’s wrong. And they won’t forget. I think so, too. Especially since this is the United States of America, not Russia. None of them should forget.

The Guardian also wrote the day before that a “red flag” had been raised for Trumpism and that, in effect, Trumpism is over. Is that really the case? But the MAGA wing still remains, and there were MAGA voters, too. Have they been written off as well?

So, MAGA – that’s it, it’s dead. Forget about MAGA; it doesn’t exist. They’re still mulling it over there; the whole MAGA movement will reflect on this a bit while Trump is still president. Yes, they’re still hanging on a bit; they think they can squeeze a little more out of this slipping power, but in reality, it’s not even in a coma anymore – MAGA is dead. It’s all in the coffin, you know? All that’s left is to throw some pebbles and flowers on it and put up a headstone. MAGA is dead.

How do I know that MAGA is dead? Well, I was listening when, just the day before the election, new polls came out showing a lead. When I, for example, spoke to people on my show, I said that 51 senators would win.

In other words, I believed the Democrats would take the Senate, but by a very narrow margin. But after I did that show, the polls came out showing a much wider margin – fifty-two seats, fifty-three seats – and in the end, it turned out to be even more.

So, the pollsters who were predicting 52 or 53 seats said that the MAGA supporters they surveyed were lying about having voted for Trump in 2024. In other words, even before the election took place, they already knew this was bad.

They were already lying about having voted for Trump in 2024. They said they didn’t go to the polls. And these pollsters say, “But we see, we see that he’s registered as a Republican, and he voted. We just don’t know how.”

But in ’24, a registered MAGA Republican, of course, voted for Trump. But he tells the pollsters he didn’t. Amazing. Right away, the rats just started jumping ship from the MAGA ship. Of course, of course. And that was before we saw the results, right?

So they clearly either didn’t go to the polls at all or lied about 2026 – and about today, too – saying they’d vote, for example, for the Republicans. Well, maybe they didn’t vote for the Democrats, but they were probably lying about that too, huh? Saying they’d go when they didn’t actually go. That’s why the result was so crazy – because part of that MAGA crowd didn’t turn out to vote.

That’s why the margin was so crazy, right? Because the Democrats were – their enthusiasm was off the charts – while MAGA already realized something was off, so they didn’t vote. So that’s it – MAGA is dead; forget about it.

You know, America is a country that’s basically moving toward progress in leaps and bounds. But you know how someone who eats too fast gets heartburn? Well, Trump and MAGA – that’s the United States’ heartburn. It’s over. That’s it. They’ll have other problems now. But MAGA is over.

MAGA is a movement to keep the white race, the white elite, in power. And it’s an alliance of the stupid, the uneducated, and the uninformed with the corrupt. Now, all the fools and the uninformed have been pushed back over the fence, where they used to be.

Forget about them. MAGA is dead. That is, not only the symptoms, but the disease itself has been cured. This regurgitation of the United States is over. Hopefully, everything will be okay with digestion now.

Elon Musk spent nearly half a billion dollars supporting 43 Republican candidates, but most of them lost the midterm elections. Only three won seats in the House of Representatives; seven others trailed behind the Democrats. How telling is this defeat for Musk, and does it suggest that even vast sums of money do not guarantee political influence in the U.S.?

Well, I think Musk is actually facing an investigation, and it’s possible he might even have to leave the country. First of all, it’s ridiculous that he spent the most money trying to keep Texas in Abbott’s hands and lost absolutely everything there.

A Democrat became governor. Democrat Telarico won the Senate seat. But Democrats also won all the minor races and all the lower-level offices there as well. And in the State Senate and the State House of Representatives – Democrats won by a landslide everywhere.

So he didn’t just lose – he suffered a crushing defeat despite all his money, because Telarico didn’t just win by a little; he won by ten percentage points. Ten! That means millions more people voted for him.

So, this is a major blunder for Musk. And he’s built himself – well, what hasn’t he built for himself in Texas? It’s his… He fled California because he thought he’d be fine in Texas. Now he’ll have to flee Texas too, because there are Democrats all around him there.

People aren’t falling for Twitter, Facebook, bots, and trolls anymore. People have learned to tell the difference. Back in 2016, people didn’t understand. They fell for all that propaganda, bots, and trolls. They didn’t understand how it worked.

But now everyone understands perfectly well. Neither Putin with his troll factory nor Musk with his money can help. People have figured out what’s going on. They’ve learned to separate the wheat from the chaff. They’ve simply rejected – en masse – money in politics; yes, they’ve rejected it all, completely.

Do the election results indicate that Americans are increasingly voting not for economic benefits, but for values? In particular, even voters who have supported Republicans for decades chose Democrats this time because they disagree with Trump’s policies. To what extent is this indicative of a shift in sentiment in the U.S.?

Hamilton won in Kansas. He’s a pastor – he runs a megachurch; he’s a pastor. In other words, he embodies Christian values. People said that Trump violated all our Christian values. These values are about loving your neighbor.

And what are we doing? We’re starting to harass people there who have a different skin color. He’s a pastor. These are all evangelicals who sold out all their values for a golden calf. He called them all out, and he won in Kansas by a landslide.

I was thinking the same thing – I had it written down as one percent here and one percent there. Very close, I think – probably a mistake. But he won by five percent, not one percent.

Yes, and Alla, you’ve pointed out this very well. There are huge margins of victory across the board.

Right. And that’s what gives the Democrats such an advantage right now – not even the number of people who will be in the Senate and the House of Representatives, but specifically this huge margin. Because it means that the majority of the American people – I’ll say it again – rejected everything Trump offered them.

It’s not just gas prices, it’s not just the war with Iran – it’s also the betrayal of allies, the betrayal of Ukraine, and rampant corruption – betrayal and corruption. And then there’s this trade war with Canada – the tariffs – and people are saying: “We didn’t sign up for this. Why would we want to have such bad relations with the Canadians?” I hear this all the time.

I was there when young women were standing in line – I was in another country, yes – and some American women were standing in line behind me. When they saw my Canadian passport, they apologized to me – can you imagine?

Iryna Uzlova: Well, yes, because that’s where J.D. Vance and those sociologists are right. But why do people need this? People didn’t understand why they’d want a life like that when they could live normally instead of fighting a war. What does this smell like, again? The Russian Federation – let’s move on to that.

What are the consequences of Trump’s election defeat for his agreements with Putin? Russian tankers linked to the diesel deal have changed their routes, the EU has rejected the idea of resuming purchases of Russian gas, and the Democrats are preparing new aid packages for Ukraine. Does this mean that the Kremlin’s calculations regarding Trump did not pan out and that support for Ukraine will remain bipartisan in the U.S.?

Yes, absolutely. I heard what Chris Coons said. He’s a Democrat from Delaware. He said we’ll be moving full steam ahead. No one will wait until January; we’ll move forward with aid to Ukraine because it’s necessary – it’s our national security, it’s European national security.

And here, for example, I was talking about Brian Fitzpatrick’s bill. He lost his seat in this wave. Brian Fitzpatrick is a Republican, but until January, he has these Republicans who, in principle, have a future, right? Because they didn’t suck up to Trump; they tried to help Ukraine. These are the Republicans who have a future.

Yes, they’ll probably have to sit out one term because Fitzpatrick lost his seat, but he still has a political future. So they’ll unite now, and by January, some measures will be taken to help Ukraine.

What should Ukraine expect from the U.S. until January, when the Democrats gain more influence in Congress? Will Trump use these two months to continue helping Putin, or will the Democrats start investigations right away and summon administration officials to testify?

No, they can’t summon anyone for hearings just yet, because the committee chairs – well, those committee chairs – have to do all that. They haven’t taken office yet; they’ll take office in January, and for now, nothing has changed. The Senate committees are headed by Republicans, who could, of course, out of fear, start urgently summoning everyone. But I don’t think so. I think the investigations will wait until January.

But as for aid to Ukraine – which they’ve already tried to push through, they’ve really tried – there’s Fitzpatrick’s bill, and there’s Mix’s bill. They certainly won’t wait until January. As for Trump himself, he won’t do it now. He promised – he said he’d be “Mr. Veto” – but he won’t dare go against public opinion like that. He won’t dare do it now. He won’t block any aid to Ukraine.

And as for Putin, I’ve also told you that Trump will be the last to betray Putin. He loves him the most. But when his own survival is at stake, he’ll betray him too. And if it comes down to some kind of legal showdown, he’ll betray Putin just the same. Don’t even doubt it.

By the way, we talked about how important it is for these committee chairs to be Democrats, right? So that’s how it will be now, given their majority in both chambers.

Well, of course. That’s why they can’t do it yet, because – you know, this subpoena power – the fact that they’re sending out subpoenas means there’s an obligation to testify, right? It has to be – well, the chair of a Senate committee or a House committee has to issue it. But for now, those positions are held by Republicans.

By the way, Mike Johnson has already said he won’t be running for re-election. Well, he won’t be in the House anymore – he’s done; he’s leaving. It’s quite possible he’ll become chief of staff to President Trump for two years.

And Jeffries will be the Speaker, I suppose?

Well, they’ll figure that out soon enough. No, Jeffries will be Speaker, but he’s a Democrat. It’s clear that Jeffries will be Speaker in January. But as for the minority, they’ll need a minority leader too, right? They’ll need a minority leader too, right? And Mike Johnson doesn’t want that at all. Mike Johnson has already said he won’t be the minority leader – he’s not interested.

He’s most likely a candidate. And Susan Wiles is a candidate for the boot. And it’s not out of the question that Mike Johnson could become the new head of the Trump administration. There are a lot of candidates for the boot there.

Right, and Abbott Hedson is the first one – we talked about that, yes. Mike Johnson just won’t be able to pray his way out of this one. When they were dragging their feet for half a year on our aid allocation back under Biden, he realized he shouldn’t block it – he should introduce this bill. He went around, praying. But now there are going to be so many problems that, well, no amount of praying will help – it just won’t work.
