For the first time since the midterm elections: Trump announced a new strike against Iran

U.S. President Donald Trump stated that American forces carried out limited strikes on Iranian territory. According to him, the operation resulted in the destruction of a new air defense facility.

According to the AP, Iranian state media reported at least two explosions near the city of Suzah on the island of Qeshm. This area is of significant strategic importance, as it is located on a key maritime route for oil transportation.

What to attack in Iran?

The U.S. leader himself called the military operation “minor” and emphasized the rapid elimination of the designated target.

“They built – they constructed a small air defense facility, and we destroyed it in about 15 minutes, or maybe even five,”
Trump told reporters.

The White House chief refrained from providing details about the target that was struck. At the same time, U.S. officials noted that the bulk of Iran’s air defense system had been neutralized during operations in June 2025 and in the early stages of the current conflict. Nevertheless, according to their assessments, Iran will subsequently attempt to rebuild the lost infrastructure.

It is noted that the current strike was the first since the Republican Party suffered a defeat in the U.S. midterm congressional elections, losing control of both chambers. One of the main reasons for voter dissatisfaction was the protracted conflict with Iran and rising fuel prices, which have hit the global economy.

After the election results were announced, Trump’s rhetoric oscillated between promises to “destroy” Iran and statements that the war was nearing an end.

As previously reported, explosions have already been heard on the island of Qeshm recently due to U.S. strikes. Their stated goal was allegedly to protect commercial vessels from attacks in the Strait of Hormuz.

In addition, it is worth recalling that the Gulf states had previously were aware of the possibility of a short war with Iran following the U.S. election.
