Policy on the use of artificial intelligence on the 24 Channel website

The development of artificial intelligence has opened up significant opportunities for everyone working in the media and generating content. 24 Channel was no exception and has been studying and applying its tools for over a year. 

As of the beginning of 2024, universal parameters that would regulate the use of AI, normalize the problem of copyright, and establish criteria for supervision of their compliance have not yet been developed in the world. However, certain recommendations and principles have already been developed that should be followed. In particular, the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine offered its advice on the use of AI for media, and the editorial staff of 24 Channel listened to them. 

We are aware of the potential risks and dangers that artificial intelligence can carry, so we strictly adhere to the following rules: 

  1. All AI-generated material necessarily undergoes editorial verification. The editorial staff of 24 Channel considers such content as unverified source material. That is, ultimately, the final professional control and responsibility for content that was fully or partially created by AI lies with a human. 

  2. Presence of labeling near images that were generated by artificial intelligence. We use such images only in a few types of news on the entertainment sections of the site. 

It is important that 24 Channel adheres to the principles of ethics in the use of AI. We do not tolerate gender, linguistic, and political biases and stereotypes, and adhere to this in the content generated by AI.

Artificial intelligence helps our editorial staff during information processing, finding ideas, forming text and voicing it. Below we tell about each of these areas of our activity. 

Where 24 Channel uses artificial intelligence capabilities

  1. Voicing news 

Thanks to AI, news has appeared on the 24 Channel website that can not only be read but also listened to. Texts of such materials are created by editors of different sections and are responsible for their fact-checking. The role of AI in such cases is only in voicing the written material. It is important that when voicing such content, 24 Channel does not use a synthesized voice that would try to duplicate the voice of a real person. 

  1. Deciphering texts to create news from live speech. 

We use artificial intelligence to relieve our site employees. Thanks to AI, we managed to automate the transcription of texts from video. This significantly simplified the mechanical work of typing text. Of course, editors proofread such transcripts for literacy and compliance with what was said by the speaker. 

  1. Forming headlines and SEO blocks, slight rewriting of texts. 

With artificial intelligence tools, we diversify some fragments of text on the site. Editors can use certain parts offered by AI, for example, for headlines. However, the priority of 24 Channel editors is their own creativity and originality, so the final version of the headline is created by a human. 

In SEO blocks of news on the site, we can use AI to suggest search keywords, according to the content of the news. 

Editors of 24 Channel can sometimes use a rewriting tool based on AI. 

In all mentioned cases, there is a mandatory factual verification of AI-generated content, which is carried out by the editor. 

  1. Creating entertainment content in the genre of tests. 

In the site sections Entertainment, Tasty, Life, Men, Pets, we place materials like  entertainment tests. Such tests do not claim scientific accuracy and are created solely for entertainment purposes. 

If some tests may contain an interpretation of certain psychological problems, we leave a disclaimer about the need to consult a specialist. 

Since artificial intelligence and the tools it offers are rapidly developing, we keep our finger on the pulse of these events. This section will be updated and supplemented as we change our approaches to AI.
