Mark Carney

Mark Carney is the leader of the ruling Liberal Party and Prime Minister of Canada, the successor to Justin Trudeau. 

He was the only candidate for party leader who had not been part of the Trudeau government. He won 85.9% of the vote.

Carney is a well-known banker and economist. He headed the Bank of Canada in 2008-2013, in the first years after the global financial crisis.

Later, in 2013-2020, he led the Bank of England. His tenure in this post coincided with the difficult years of Brexit and the exit from the EU.

Mark Carney has said that he sympathizes with Ukraine and supports Ukraine's path to membership in the European Union and NATO.
