Rustem Umerov

Rustem Umerov – Head of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine since August 3, 2026.
Umerov was born on April 19, 1982, in the city of Samarkand in Uzbekistan; he is an ethnic Crimean Tatar and a Muslim.
Rustem Umerov began his political activity in 2019 – in the snap parliamentary elections to the Verkhovna Rada he was elected a Member of Parliament from the "Holos" party.
In 2022, Umerov left the "Holos" party and on September 7 was appointed head of the State Property Fund of Ukraine.
From September 6, 2023, to July 16, 2025, he was Minister of Defense of Ukraine.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy appointed him Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council on July 18, 2025. He worked in this position until August 3, 2026.
