What's happening right now on Maidan in Kyiv

In Ukraine and outside the walls of the Verkhovna Rada, rallies are being held against the adoption of the law on the land market. The protesters oppose lifting the moratorium on the sale of agricultural land to companies and foreigners.

The rally was organized by several political forces, in particular: the All-Ukrainian Union "Svoboda", the All-Ukrainian Union "Batkivshchyna", the Agrarian Party and the National Corps. In total, according to the police, approximately 1.5-2 thousand people are taking part in the protest.

Near the Verkhovna Rada on December 17, several clashes occurred between protesters against the land market and the police, during which loud explosions could be heard.

The protesters did not let anyone out of parliament, and the police tore down the protesters' tents. In response, they began throwing stones, sticks and bottles at law enforcement officers. Windows were blown out at the Kyiv Hotel, where people's deputies of Ukraine stay.

During the confrontation, 17 law enforcement officers and two civilians were injured. In addition, the police detained 26 protesters. Towards evening, they were all released.
