Trump's Fiasco: Democrats Take the Lead in the House of Representatives, According to Media Reports

The Democratic Party is leading in the U.S. midterm congressional elections. U.S. media outlets are predicting a disaster for the Republicans and the loss of control over the House of Representatives and several states.

CNN and Reuters have released their forecasts.

Media Projections

It is reported that the Democrats have already secured victories in at least five states currently represented by Republican senators. These states are Ohio, Texas, South Carolina, and Kansas.

Democrats also hold the lead in six other states and are in a strong position to retain their seats. According to preliminary media estimates, Republicans risk ending the race with only 2 seats out of 15.

It is noted that in order to get a majority in the Senate, the Democrats had to take 4 "red" districts and not lose any of theirs.

This shift in the balance of power opens the door for Hakeem Jeffries to become the first Black Speaker of the House of Representatives in the nation’s history. To do so, he will need to win a vote following the first session of the new Congress.

Meanwhile, Gina Hinohosa is poised to lead the state of Texas and become its first Latino governor. She could replace Republican Greg Abbott, who has held the office for nearly 12 years.

In Kansas, analysts predict a victory for Democrat Adam Hamilton over Republican Senator Roger Marshall. Hamilton could become the state’s first Democratic senator in 94 years.

“This isn’t about Republicans or Democrats. It’s about human dignity,”
– said Adam Hamilton.

It is noted that Hamilton managed to fend off fierce attacks from President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance, who personally visited the state and questioned his faith and intentions.

Possible Senate Seat Breakdown

The New York Times also reports that the Democratic Party is leading the Republican Party in the midterm congressional elections. Preliminary results show that Democrats have secured 52 seats in the Senate compared to their opponents’ 39, and 201 seats in the House of Representatives compared to 119.

Democrats won a Senate seat in North Carolina and held onto their seats in Georgia and New Hampshire. In Georgia, former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms became the first Black woman to serve as governor in U.S. history, as well as the first Democrat to hold that office since 1998.

Meanwhile, in Florida, Republicans retained their Senate seat: incumbent Senator Ashley Moody defeated progressive Democrat Angie Nixon.

A joint tally by Reuters and USA Today shows that Republicans have lost significant ground compared to Trump’s victory in the 2024 election. The party lost support in nearly all of the approximately 1,000 precincts where votes have been counted, and its share of the vote there fell by 9 percentage points.
