Democratic Party of the United States

The modern Democratic Party of the United States emerged in the 19th century. Together with the Republican Party, it forms a two-party system.

The Democrats are a left-wing political force with progressive thinking. In particular, they support Ukraine in the war against Russia, the democratic state of Israel and the right of Palestinians to peaceful self-government. In addition, they:

  • advocate a woman's right to decide for herself whether or not to have children. That is, they are for legal abortion;
  • support raising the minimum wage and increasing taxes on higher incomes;
  • call for giving illegal migrants the opportunity to obtain citizenship;
  • support the legalization of same-sex marriage.

US presidents from the Democratic Party in the 21st century have been Bill Clinton, Barack Obama and Joe Biden.
