Yuri Ushakov, an aide to the Russian dictator, made this statement following a meeting between Vladimir Putin and Steve Witkoff, according to the Russian news agency Interfax.
Talks Between the U.S., Russia, and China
Ushakov stated that the idea of a trilateral summit was discussed during talks with the U.S. president’s special representative. According to the Russian official, Moscow has already put forward certain practical considerations regarding the content of a possible dialogue.
Our Chinese friends, the hosts of the APEC summit, will take on – or, more precisely, are already taking on – its preparation. And if circumstances allow, they, our Chinese friends, will of course include this meeting in the program of events in Shenzhen,
Ushakov told reporters.
It is known that after his conversation with Witkoff, Putin held a meeting with Li Qiang, Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, also in St. Petersburg. There, the Russian dictator specifically emphasized that there would be an opportunity to meet with Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the Asian summit.
As previously reported, Donald Trump expressed his willingness for trilateral talks at the leadership level in China. At the same time, attempts to organize discussions about the war without Ukrainian representatives raise concerns about backroom deals on security issues.
