What did Zelenskyy say?
The head of state drew attention to the massive trade volume between Beijing and Moscow, which makes the Russian economy vulnerable to external pressure. He believes that the Chinese leader could influence the Russian dictator’s willingness to continue armed aggression.
China has influence over Russia because it is a real market for Russia, and trade between Russia and China appears to be the largest. So, of course, China has influence and can force Putin to end this war
He commented on possible negotiations between the leaders of the U.S., China, and Russia. The head of state emphasized the consistency of Kyiv’s position regarding the inadmissibility of making any decisions behind Ukraine’s back.
I hope no one will divide Ukraine. This is not easy for us. We need friends, not Russian friends
The head of state noted that Ukraine has always supported multilateral negotiations and advocated for contacts with Russia mediated by the U.S. and supported by Europe. He added that if Beijing is truly committed to helping, it has ample opportunities to do so.
Recall that Donald Trump expressed his willingness to participate in a potential trilateral meeting of the leaders of the U.S., China, and Russia. Commenting on the possibility of such a summit in an interview with Italian media, Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that “the Russian dictator's emergence from isolation has already begun.” At the same time, the Chinese Foreign Ministry emphasized that “do not have the information” regarding preparations for a trilateral summit.
