Mark Rutte

Mark Rutte

Генсек НАТО

Mark Rutte is the Secretary General of NATO. In this post, he will replace Jens Stoltenberg and will officially receive his powers as Secretary General of the Alliance in autumn 2024.

Rutte started as a historian, moved into business and then into politics, where he became Prime Minister of the Netherlands. The 57-year-old Rutte first took office in 2010 and became the longest-serving head of government of that country.

Since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, he has been one of Kyiv's most loyal allies and a critic of Putin. During his premiership, Rutte actively supported Ukraine, providing financial, military and political assistance, which makes him incredibly important for Ukraine and NATO.

Perhaps it is during Rutte's term that Ukraine will become a full member of NATO.
