President Volodymyr Zelenskyy mentioned this in an interview with NBC News.
Who Demanded Restrictions on Starlink
In response to a question about possible deliberate interference with the systems’ operation, Zelenskyy stated that the decision to impose restrictions was made by specific officials in Washington, though it is unknown exactly who.
Of course, the message came from the government. I don’t know exactly who sent it – which office, agency, or the like. And I think it won’t work anyway, but I don’t know for sure,
– said the head of state
Zelenskyy added that, after analyzing the incident, representatives of the Ukrainian military command and the government arrived at a common conclusion regarding the reasons for setting the speed limit.
And this is not just my opinion, but also the opinion of our generals and our government. And, of course, I share the same view that this was an instruction from the U.S. government – to limit the speed. And, technically, SpaceX complied with it,
– the president said.
Earlier, despite accusations against the U.S. authorities, U.S. President Joe Biden and White House officials denied any involvement to these limits.
As a reminder, on October 14, Starshield terminals suddenly began losing connection while traveling at speeds ranging from 72 to 161 kilometers per hour. As a result, Ukrainian units encountered difficulties in shooting down Russian aerial targets, and some combat missions had to be canceled altogether.
It should be noted that the Ukrainian Embassy in the U.S. is still awaiting updates from official statements from the Pentagon and SpaceX. Diplomats have not yet confirmed that the service has fully resumed, as communication interruptions still occur at speeds exceeding 160 kilometers per hour.
