Williams

A British team and constructor in Formula 1 racing, Williams. It is a nine-time winner of the Constructors' Championship. It was founded by Sir Frank Williams and Patrick Head in 1977 after two previous unsuccessful attempts by Frank Williams: Frank Williams Racing Cars and Walter Wolf Racing. All Williams chassis carry the FW designation in honor of the team's founder, Sir Frank Williams. The team's first race was the 1977 Spanish Grand Prix, where they used a March chassis. Only the following year did the Williams team begin building its own chassis. The first victory came in 1979 at the British Grand Prix. Clay Regazzoni was behind the wheel at that historic moment. At the 1997 British Grand Prix, Jacques Villeneuve won the 100th Grand Prix for Williams. Thus, Williams became the third team in Formula 1 history (after Ferrari and McLaren) to win more than 100 Grands Prix.
