Biometric Control in Ukraine
On February 5, 2016, a resolution No. 4030 was registered in the Verkhovna Rada on appealing to the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine to terminate the Agreement between the Government of Ukraine and the Government of the Russian Federation on visa-free travel for citizens of Ukraine and the Russian Federation. Among the authors of the resolution was Speaker Andrii Parubii.
The topic of introducing a visa regime with Russia was raised again in October 2016 after the arrest in Russia of Ukrainian journalist Roman Sushchenko.
A new wave of talk about introducing a visa regime with Russia arose in 2017 after the final approval of "visa-free travel" with the European Union and after the ban on Russian social networks in Ukraine. For its part, Moscow is ready to take symmetrical measures regarding Ukrainian citizens if the Verkhovna Rada votes for such a decision.
