Crimean Tatars

An Eastern European Turkic people that historically formed in Crimea.

The Crimean Tatars advocated the territorial integrity of Ukraine in opposition to the pro-Russian separatist movement in Crimea.

Despite this, in March 2014 Russia annexed Crimea and banned Crimean Tatar leaders Mustafa Dzhemilev and Refat Chubarov from entering Crimea.

The Crimean Tatars declare that they do not recognize the Russian occupation of Crimea.
