Elections in Germany

Elections in Germany involve electing the Bundestag – the federal parliament. In particular, the deputies who will form the government, and the federal chancellor. Berlin also holds elections to the European Parliament.

At the same time, the President of Germany is elected by the Federal Convention (a special constitutional body) once every 5 years.

On February 23, 2025, early parliamentary elections were held in Germany, called after the collapse of the government coalition.

Instead of Olaf Scholz, the post of Chancellor of Germany was taken by Friedrich Merz – the candidate of the CDU/CSU bloc, which won 28.5% of the vote.
