ID cards
An ID card is the internal passport of a citizen of Ukraine in the form of a plastic card with an electronic data carrier (chip), containing both visual information about the person and information that can only be read from the electronic carrier.
Starting November 1, 2018, every Ukrainian will be able to exchange a paper passport for an ID card. The cost of issuing an ID card for all citizens ranges from UAH 87 to UAH 174.
The ID card has significant advantages: convenience, protection against forgery, and the ability to travel to Turkey, and soon to Georgia as well. However, there are currently some drawbacks: ID card holders are not allowed into Belarus; many institutions do not yet have reading equipment, so ID card holders often have to carry A4 paper certificates of residence registration; and currently the data on the chip cannot be changed, for example, regarding place of residence, marital status, etc.
