Nagorno-Karabakh
The conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh has been going on for more than 30 years, but at the end of September 2020 it flared up with renewed force. Most of Nagorno-Karabakh's population is ethnic Armenian.
On November 9, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense stated that the Armenian armed forces had retreated on some sections of the front in Nagorno-Karabakh after fighting.
Later, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev announced that the key city of Shusha in Nagorno-Karabakh had been taken under control.
At the same time, the Armenian Ministry of Defense denied this information and stated that fighting in Shusha was continuing.
