News from Georgia
August 2018 marked 10 years since Russia's attack on Georgia and the so-called "5-day" Russian-Georgian war.
On August 7, 2008, Russian regular troops invaded Georgia, crossing the country's border through the Roki Tunnel. Due to heavy shelling by Ossetian separatists and the Russian military, in the evening Georgian troops entered Tskhinvali and began a special operation there, defending their territory.
The Russian army illegally invaded Georgia at least 19-20 hours before the start of the Georgian operation. However, Moscow officially claims that its troops entered Georgia only on August 8, after Tbilisi launched a military operation in the Tskhinvali region.
