Nicolás Maduro

Nicolás Maduro has been the president of Venezuela since 2013.

The US and the EU do not recognize him as the country's leader. Ukraine holds the same position due to election fraud.

During his rule, the politician, who came to power after Hugo Chávez, became known for dictatorship. In particular, Venezuela has no independent media, and drug cartels flourish in the country. The US and the EU imposed sanctions against the Maduro regime.

Despite the world's largest oil reserves, people's well-being keeps declining, and even basic household goods are in short supply. As a result, millions of people have emigrated, and those who stayed suffer from the country's economic decline.

On the night of January 3, 2025, the US conducted a special operation in Venezuela and detained Maduro and his wife. Washington will govern the country until a "safe transition of power".
