Protests in Belarus
After the results of the presidential election were announced on August 9, people began mass peaceful protests. Belarusians disagree with the official results and demand a recount of the votes. The international community also supports them in this.
Peaceful demonstrations turned into bloody clashes with the security forces. During the brutal dispersals of peaceful activists, riot police use stun grenades, rubber bullets and water cannons.
So far, Lukashenko shows no intention of negotiating with the protesters or contributing to a diplomatic resolution of the conflict.
Two deaths are known, and at least 200 people have been injured. In addition, about 7 thousand people have been detained.
