What could have changed Putin’s stance on the negotiations?
He noted that Putin previously saw no point in meetings, since the parties remained entrenched in their positions; however, following the visit of U.S. President's Special Envoy Steve Witkoff to Russia, the situation has changed.
“Perhaps there are some agreements between the U.S. and Russia that I am not aware of,”
Witkoff brought a document from Oslo, and after reviewing it, the Russian dictator changed his rhetoric. Now the parties are discussing the possibility of a trilateral meeting involving Ukraine, the U.S., and Russia.
At the same time, Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine does not view territory as something to be simply exchanged. According to him, the American side has long been raising the issue of a so-called territorial exchange, but Kyiv has its own position regarding the format of the discussions.
Everyone must understand this. First, we are not trading anything for anything. We are ready to discuss the territorial issue at the leadership level, and other issues at the level of technical working groups. So, all of this can be discussed in November
Ukraine wants to see as well as European partners involved in the negotiation process. According to the head of state, it is important that the trilateral meeting not be limited to the mere fact of negotiations, but lead to concrete results.
