"The World Is Looking for Alternatives": Political Analyst Discusses the Consequences of manipulations with Starlink in the US

Alexander Leonov, executive director of the "Penta" Center for Applied Political Studies, said on 24 Channel that it is impossible to completely shut down Starlink due to a commercial contract with Poland. However, the U.S. found a way to artificially slow down the system’s operation, which sparked a wave of outrage among the American public. As a result, the White House and Elon Musk began shifting blame onto each other.

How U.S. Decisions Affect the Global Market

According to the expert, over 70% of U.S. citizens support Ukraine, so political manipulation of communications appears to be a direct blow to the national security of allies. The consequences of such actions are already being felt on a global scale.

The U.S. cannot be considered a reliable ally if, for political reasons, it can make decisions that directly affect national security. And so, unfortunately, what is happening now is that the U.S. leadership is effectively undermining the leadership that has been built up over decades– noted Alexander Leonov.

As a result, Canada has already announced its decision to abandon Starlink, and European countries – including France, the United Kingdom, and Finland – are actively seeking alternatives such as the Eutelsat satellite system.

Japan and South Korea have also begun discussing the development of their own regional networks. Furthermore, this policy is causing financial losses for U.S. defense contractors and is creating a rift within the Republican Party itself.
