
The Death of Farion
On the evening of July 19, 2024, an assassination attempt was made in Lviv on linguist Iryna Farion. The woman was taken to hospital with a gunshot wound to the head, but later died. The alleged attacker was detained in Dnipro a few days later, on July 25. The Ministry of Internal Affairs is inclined to believe that he is only the perpetrator of the crime.
On October 1, 2026, the Shevchenkiv District Court found Vyacheslav Zinchenko guilty of the murder of Iryna Farion. He was sentenced to life imprisonment.
Iryna Farion – a former MP and linguist. After scandalous statements, the scholar was dismissed from the position of professor at the Department of Ukrainian Language at Lviv Polytechnic. She was later reinstated by a court decision.
