The Occupation of Crimea

On March 18, 2014, Russia declared Crimea Russian. The occupation of Crimea is not recognized by the Ukrainian state, the UN General Assembly, PACE or the OSCE PA, and it also contradicts the decision of the Venice Commission. Instead, the Kremlin authorities interpret the annexation of Crimea to Russia as "the restoration of historical justice".
According to the Law of Ukraine "On Ensuring the Rights and Freedoms of Citizens and the Legal Regime in the Temporarily Occupied Territory of Ukraine", the territory of the Crimean Peninsula is considered temporarily occupied as a result of the Russian occupation.
February 26 is the Day of Resistance of Crimea to the Russian Occupation. It was on this day 7 years ago that a rally in support of Ukraine's territorial integrity took place in front of the building of the Verkhovna Rada of Crimea.
