Transnistria

The Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic, abbreviated PMR, or Transnistria, is a self-proclaimed entity that the world does not recognise as an independent state but considers part of the Republic of Moldova.On August 25, 1991, the independence of Transnistria was proclaimed, after which an armed conflict with official Moldova began. Russia actively helped the separatists, as a result of which the PMR won. However, at the official level Russia has still not recognised the sovereignty of this entity.In 2007, a referendum was held in Transnistria at which 98% of voters voted for independence and integration with Russia. The world did not recognise these results.After the start of the war and Russia's attack on Ukraine, the situation in Transnistria also escalated. Since April 25, 3 explosions have rocked the region, and the so-called authorities declared a red level of terrorist threat.Russia allegedly wants to obtain a land corridor from Donbas to Transnistria through the South of Ukraine. However, Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council Oleksii Danilov considers such intentions of Moscow unrealistic. He assured that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are ready for everything happening in the "PMR".In addition, Ukrainian intelligence reports that Russia has already developed clear plans for an invasion of Moldova.
