What is known about a possible trilateral summit?
It should be noted that, at this point, the summit is unlikely to take place. On Monday, October 19, Donald Trump announced an agreement to hold a trilateral meeting with Putin and Xi Jinping in China. The politician stated that he would take this step not for Ukraine’s sake, but because of Russia’s “normal behavior.”
According to the WSJ, the proposal to organize a summit without Ukraine’s participation was seen as an attempt to influence future developments without involving Kyiv. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed reports of a possible trilateral meeting, noting that the parties had no specific agreements regarding the agenda.
Meanwhile, China’s Foreign Ministry stated that it had no information regarding preparations for a meeting of the leaders of China, the United States, and Russia. Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning declined to comment on possible negotiations to end the war in Ukraine.
