The U.S. is already trying to separate economic agreements with Russia from negotiations to end the war in Ukraine. The recent diesel deal with Russia serves as confirmation of this.

Political analyst Volodymyr Fesenko discussed this on 24 Channel. According to him, the Americans’ position used to be more consistent. At first, they expected the war to end, and only then were they ready to discuss economic agreements with the Russians.

What’s wrong with the new U.S. peace initiatives?

As Fesenko emphasized, the Americans have not forgotten the need to end the war in Ukraine. The negotiation process has resumed. A meeting with the Ukrainian delegation in Oslo has already taken place, as has a visit by Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, to dictator Putin.

In addition, ideas for new U.S. peace initiatives have begun to appear in the media. Sources reported that Steve Witkoff is the one working on this.

Some Western journalists based in the U.S. have stated that this is Witkoff’s idea. There is renewed talk of a ceasefire, the creation of a special fund for Ukraine’s reconstruction, the gradual lifting of sanctions against Russia, security guarantees for Ukraine, and neutral status for Ukraine. At the same time, Witkoff’s key idea is specifically related to business. He proposes a compromise: to resume large-scale exports of gas and oil from Russia to Europe, but with American companies acting as operators– Fesenko noted.

In fact, the United States is interested in profiting from the peace talks. The Trump administration’s “peacemaking” is always tied to business.

We should add that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently announced a new meeting with Trump’s envoys in Europe. He expects that the diplomatic process will continue next week.
