
Adam Osmayev
Adam Osmayev – a Chechen volunteer of the "Kyiv-2" police battalion, commander of the Dzhokhar Dudayev Battalion.
In February 2012, Osmayev was detained in Odesa by Ukrainian law enforcement on suspicion of causing an explosion in an Odesa apartment. The investigation also suspected that he, together with an accomplice, was preparing an assassination attempt on Russian President Vladimir Putin. In September 2013, the second defendant in this case, Ilya Pyanzin, whom Ukraine had extradited to Russia, was sentenced in Russia to 10 years in prison.
The European Court of Human Rights recommended that Ukraine not extradite Osmayev to Russia, after which Ukraine decided to suspend the extradition process. On November 19, 2014, after more than 2.5 years of imprisonment, he was released from custody.
In February 2015, Osmayev became the new commander of the Dzhokhar Dudayev Battalion after the death of Isa Munayev.
On Thursday, June 1, an assassination attempt took place in Kyiv on ATO participants who served in the "Kyiv-2" police battalion, Adam Osmayev and his wife Amina Okueva.
According to preliminary police data, the attacker – a man who introduced himself as a foreign journalist, – had arranged a meeting with the couple in advance. When they got into the car, the stranger shot Osmayev in the chest with a pistol. In response, Amina Okueva fired several shots at the shooter from her Makarov pistol.
Criminal proceedings were opened over the attempted murder of two or more persons under Part 2 of Article 15 and Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
