Ali Khamenei
Ali Khamenei was the Supreme Leader of Iran, an ayatollah. He came to power in 1989 and ruled the country for 37 years.
As a result of his rule, Iran suffered from sanctions, inflation and dictatorship.
The situation in the country escalated when Israel struck Iran on the night of June 13, 2025, stating that it had attacked targets linked to Iran's nuclear program, military facilities and leaders.
Israel launched the operation called "Rising Lion" after US negotiations with Iran on Tehran's nuclear program.
Israel and the US launched Operation "Roaring Lion" on February 28, 2026. Iran came under attack and in response began bombing Israel, the UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Jordan and Saudi Arabia.
Ayatollah Khamenei was eliminated on February 28, 2026. Members of his family were also killed. His son, Mojtaba Khamenei, became the new leader of Iran.
