Attempted Assassination of Sobolev

In the evening of December 1 in Kyiv, a car carrying Kyiv Regional Council deputy Viacheslav Sobolev was fired upon. At the time of the shooting, his 3-year-old son Oleksandr was with him.

According to the police, the attacker was aiming at the politician but hit his 3-year-old son. The child died in the ambulance on the way to the hospital.

Already on December 2, the police managed to detain the attackers – Andrii Lavreha and Oleksii Semenov. The suspects are 18 and 19 years old. One of them opened fire on the politician's car from the balcony of a hostel where the young men had rented a room the day before. To avoid being noticed, the killer covered himself with a piece of cardboard.

On December 3, the suspects were served with notices of suspicion; they face up to fifteen years in prison or life imprisonment. They were taken into custody without the right to bail.
