"Freedom of Russia" Legion
- 9 October
The "Freedom of Russia" Legion is a Russian legion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, formed in March 2022 to defend Ukraine against the Russian invasion during the full-scale war. It is part of the International Legion of the Territorial Defense of Ukraine.
The Legion was formed from former servicemen of the Russian Armed Forces and other Russians and Belarusians who went over to Ukraine's side. The Legion has its own weapons, which it managed to take from the enemy as trophies during the fighting in Ukraine. In particular, "Freedom of Russia" has its own artillery.
In August and December 2023, the Legion carried out two raids into Russian territory. During the first, the volunteers managed to destroy part of an enemy sabotage and reconnaissance group, and during the second – a Russian stronghold near the village of Terebreno.
In March 2024, the Legion crossed into Russian territory again. Fighting broke out in the Russian border districts.
