Frozen Russian Assets

After the start of the war in Ukraine, the European Union introduced restrictive measures against Russia. In particular, it froze the assets of the Central Bank of the enemy state.

According to various estimates, about 260 billion euros of assets of the Central Bank of Russia were frozen in the form of securities and cash in the jurisdictions of G7 partners, the EU and Australia. Most of them are in the EU. In the future, this money can be used to support Ukraine. Thanks to it, the EU budget will be replenished with additional resources for the recovery and reconstruction of our state.

Ukraine received money from the proceeds of frozen Russian assets for the first time on January 10, 2025. Denys Shmyhal stated that this concerns 3 billion euros secured by proceeds from frozen Russian assets.
