Fukushima-1
A nuclear power plant in Japan. It is located on the territory of the towns of Okuma and Futaba in Futaba District, Fukushima Prefecture. It was put into operation in 1971. As of 2011, it had six power units. It generates 4.7 GW of energy. It is one of the 25 largest nuclear power plants in the world.
The first nuclear power plant built by the Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO). It is located 11.5 km south of the Fukushima Daini Nuclear Power Plant, which is also operated by TEPCO. Its abbreviated name is 1F.
On March 11, 2011, as a result of the strongest earthquake ever recorded in Japan, a radiation accident with local consequences occurred – according to Japanese officials, level 4 on the INES scale at the start of the accident.
