A Hero City of Ukraine, an urban-type settlement in the Kyiv region subordinate to the Bucha District Council.Hostomel Airport is located on the territory of Hostomel; it was attacked by the Russian occupiers on the first day of the full-scale war, February 24.During the Russian airborne landing, the occupiers destroyed the largest and most powerful aircraft in the world, the An-225 "Mriya". It was in a hangar and did not survive the enemy shelling.Ukrainian troops heroically managed to defend Hostomel, and the settlement was awarded the "Hero City" title for the resilience of local residents in confronting the Russian invasion.
