Hurricane in the U.S.
At the end of August 2017, the devastating Hurricane Harvey hit the USA. The disaster caused the most damage to the states of Texas and Louisiana. The hurricane brought heavy downpours, flooding the streets of Houston (Texas), the fourth-largest city in the USA. Because of the flood, explosions went off and a fire broke out at the Arkema chemical plant, located near the city of Houston.
Hurricane Harvey was called one of the most powerful in the last decade. The disaster claimed the lives of 60 people. More than a million people were evacuated, and about 200 thousand houses were damaged. No Ukrainians were harmed as a result of Hurricane Harvey. Damage from Hurricane Harvey is estimated at 125 billion dollars.
Before Americans had time to recover from Hurricane Harvey, another disaster began to approach the States – Hurricane Irma. It formed in the Atlantic Ocean. The hurricane was assigned category five, the highest. Wind speeds reach up to 295 km/h. It has already approached the Leeward Islands and is moving further towards Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.
