Karol Nawrocki – President of Poland since August 6, 2025.
He is a Polish historian and the candidate of the "Law and Justice" (PiS) party who won the second round of the presidential election in Poland on June 1, 2025.
He was born in Gdańsk and graduated from the Jagiellonian University. He served as director of Poland's Institute of National Remembrance, where he actively researched the Volhynia tragedy.
Nawrocki has repeatedly accused Ukraine of "crimes in Volhynia", as well as of interfering in Polish elections. He is also known for other scandalous statements about Ukraine; in particular, he pledged to oppose Ukraine's accession to NATO.
At the same time, Nawrocki recognizes the importance of supporting Ukraine in the fight against Russian aggression, but stresses the need for "historical truth". Nawrocki's victory could cause a major political crisis in Poland and a comeback of far-right forces.
