Kinburn Spit
The Kinburn Spit is a sandy spit in Mykolaiv region, located between the Dnipro-Buh Estuary, Yahorlyk Bay and the Black Sea.
The Kinburn Spit has been occupied by Russia since March 2022. During Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine the occupiers have been shelling Ukraine from its territory.
Ukrainian soldiers raised our flag on the spit between the Dnipro-Buh Estuary and the Black Sea in August 2024, but the territory was not under the control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In June 2026, the ATESH partisans reported that the Russian army was fleeing the Kinburn Spit.
In turn, the spokesperson for the Southern Defense Forces, Vladyslav Voloshyn, said that the information about the Russians fleeing was not entirely true, as it was premature to speak of a complete Russian withdrawal from the Kinburn Spit. But Voloshyn said that the Ukrainian military was indeed trying to take the enemy's logistics routes in occupied Kherson region, including the Kinburn Spit, under fire control.
Experts argue that the Kinburn Spit is important for the Russians to shell Mykolaiv and the highways to Kherson.
