In 1990, the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra was included in the UNESCO heritage list.
The Kyiv Pechersk Lavra was registered as a monastery of the OCU on December 1, 2022.
The first OCU service in the Lavra took place on January 7, 2023 in the Dormition Cathedral.
Russia's attack on the Lavra
On the night of June 15, 2026, Russia shelled the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra. The roof of the Dormition Cathedral caught fire there.
Historian and serviceman Vakhtang Kipiani wrote that this was Russia's revenge for the eviction of the ROC from the territory of the reserve. After all, a few days earlier the UOC-MP had left the Far Caves of the Lavra. Also, a monument to Hetman Mazepa was to be erected near the Dormition Cathedral.
