Locusts

Locusts are pest insects, as they cause damage to agriculture, destroying everything in the fields.

In Ukraine, a locust invasion began in summer 2025 in Zaporizhzhia Oblast and spread to Dnipropetrovsk and Kherson oblasts and, in pockets, to the southwest of Odesa Oblast.

Experts say that the reasons for the spread of locusts are climate change, heat, drought and the weakening of the pests' natural enemies. According to them, chemical treatment against locusts will help protect agriculture.
