MH17

On July 17, 2014, a Boeing 777 passenger plane operating flight MH17 was shot down over Donbas. It was flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur. All passengers of the aircraft, together with the crew, died in the crash. In total, 298 people died in this air disaster.

Australia, the Netherlands and the United States believe that Russia was involved in downing the plane. Moscow denies involvement in the disaster.

According to the official version of the investigation, four suspects are responsible for downing the Boeing:

  • one of the militant leaders in eastern Ukraine, Igor Girkin,
  • Russian general Sergey Dubinsky,
  • Russian colonel Oleg Pulatov,
  • a Ukrainian who fought for the militants – Leonid Kharchenko.

On November 17, 2022, a court in The Hague sentenced Girkin (Strelkov), Dubinsky and Kharchenko to life imprisonment.
