Paton Bridge
The Paton Bridge is the world's largest all-welded bridge, 1,543 meters long, opened in 1953. It connects the right and left banks in Kyiv.
Academician Yevhen Paton took part in its design and construction, so the bridge was named after him.
The bridge has been reconstructed only once, in 2004. Since then its condition has been deteriorating. In 2017 it was declared to be in a state of disrepair, and in 2020 traffic in the outer lanes and with an axle load of over 7 tons was banned.
In February 2026, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Viacheslav Bohdanov said that the technical condition of the bridge was of concern to specialists, as the bridge has critical corrosion damage and cracks in the joints of the flanges and webs of the main girders.
In March 2026, the Kyiv City State Administration stated that the bridge could be used, but kept the restrictions in force.
