Savchenko's Detention

On March 22, 2018, the Verkhovna Rada lifted the immunity of People's Deputy of Ukraine Nadiia Savchenko and also gave permission for her detention and arrest. After that she was detained in the Rada, and Prosecutor General Yurii Lutsenko signed and announced a notice of suspicion to Nadiia Savchenko in the presence of a lawyer.

The court hearing in the MP's case will take place on Friday, March 23. The Prosecutor General's Office will ask for her to be held in custody without the right to bail. Meanwhile, Savchenko herself packed her things for prison as early as Thursday morning.

Nadiia Savchenko is suspected of conspiring with the terrorist organisation "DPR" and preparing a large-scale terrorist attack in central Kyiv and a coup d'état. According to the Prosecutor General's Office, using an arsenal of weapons brought from the occupied territories, Savchenko and Ruban planned to assassinate the President of Ukraine, the Prime Minister and other statesmen, as well as to blow up the Verkhovna Rada building and shell nearby buildings.

At the meeting of the Verkhovna Rada on March 22, Prosecutor General Yurii Lutsenko showed video recordings in which Savchenko and Ruban informed officers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine of their plans to assassinate statesmen and overthrow the constitutional order in Ukraine.
