Shutdown
A shutdown is the cessation of work of all federal agencies in the United States.
In the history of the United States, a shutdown has occurred at least 18 times, and in 2018–2019 it happened twice. At that time, the cause of the shutdown was the officials' failure to adopt a budget.
The shutdown in the US began on October 1, 2025 because the United States Senate failed to pass either of 2 bills to extend government funding in order to prevent a shutdown.
